An 11-cup home hydroponic planter for herbs and leafy greens.
This is the same deep water culture kit as our 11 cup system, set up for a kitchen bench or a balcony. It grows herbs and other plants in nutrient solution instead of soil, and it is simple to put together. No experience is needed.
In the box: 1 box (the tub), 1 aquarium air pump, 1 buoy, 1 buoy deck, 11 planting baskets, 11 planting sponges, 1 pair of tweezers and 1 silicone hose. Assembly instructions come with it. Seeds are not included.
The tub cover and the planting baskets keep light out of the solution, which helps limit algae. The buoy sits in a hole in the cover and shows the solution level, so you know when to add solution or water.
The air pump pushes air through the hose into the tub. If the pump does not seem to work, the blue valve may be on backwards: turn it around so the pump pushes air into the solution.
How deep water culture works: the plant roots hang in a nutrient solution, and the air pump keeps it moving with bubbles. It is one of the simplest hydroponic methods to set up and look after, which is why it suits a first kit. Check the solution level, the nutrient strength and the pH now and then, and clean the tub between crops.
